    Description

    I-Pill® is manufactured by Piramal Healthcare. I-Pill® is one tablet to be taken as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours and no later than 72 hours after unprotected sex, after another method of contraception failed or in case woman has a critical gap in the schedule of taking combined hormonal birth-control medication.

    I-Pill® is most effective when used within 12 hours, but can be effective for up to 5 days (120 hours) following unprotected intercourse.

    The active ingredient Levonorgestrel is a synthetic progestin (female hormone). Levonorgestrel, when given at a dose of 1.5 mg, blocks the actions of the hormones LH and FSH which are responsible for maturing the egg, preparing the womb to receive a fertilized egg and for the actual implantation of the egg in the uterine lining.

    I-Pill® is not an abortion pill but a female hormone medication, which can be taken only by women aged 16 years and over.

    I-Pill® is not a method of long-term contraception and can not be used more than once in a monthly cycle.

    Note, that I-Pill® may be less effective for women with a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 26.

    I-Pill® doesn't protect you and your partner from sexually transmitted diseases (HIV and the others).

    Dosage

    I-Pill® is a single dose formulation sufficient for the purpose of emergency contraception.

    Take I-Pill® pill orally as soon as possible within 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse. I-Pill® is most effective when used within 12 hours, but can be effective for up to 5 days (120 hours) following unprotected intercourse.

    If you vomit less than 2 hours after taking a pill, you may need to take another dose of this medication.

    I-Pill® can be taken only by women aged 16 years and over. It is intended for occasional use only and is not recommended for using more than once in a monthly cycle.

    Here is the list of occasional situations which suppose usage of emergency contraception:

    - 3 or more consecutively missed combined oral contraceptive pills (e.g., Alesse, Diane 35);

    - progestogen-only pill (minipill) taken more than 3 hours late (e.g., Cerasette®, Zerogen, Desogestrel, Nogesta, Vanish);

    - desogestrel-containing pill (0.75 mg) taken more than 12 hours late (e.g., Cerasette®, Zerogen);

    - norethisterone enanthate (NET-EN) progestogen-only injection taken more than 2 weeks late;

    - depot-medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) progestogen-only injection taken more than four weeks late;

    - the combined estrogen-plus-progestogen monthly injection given more than seven days late.

    I-Pill® is not a method of long-term contraception.

    If woman’s periods late for more than a week, she may be pregnant, and a test should be administered. Consult the doctor immediately if abdominal pain occurs during 3-d to 5-th week after taking I-Pill® pill, as this is a sign of ectopic pregnancy.

    Missing a dose

    I-Pill® is used only when needed. Do not exceed the doctor's recommended dose. Do not take a double dose of I-Pill®. I-Pill® is not for use more than once in a monthly cycle.

    Overdose

    If an overdose occurs and you are feeling unwell, you should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately. I-Pill® is not for use more than once in a monthly cycle.

    Storage

    Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.

    Do not take I-Pill® if you have ever had an ectopic pregnancy (baby develops outside the womb), fallopian tube surgery or pelvic inflammatory disease.

    Do not take I-Pill® if you have severe liver problems.

    Do not take I-Pill® if you have severe digestive problems (e.g. Crohn’s disease).

    Do not drive or operate machinery until you are sure you are not affected.

    Do not take I-Pill® if you have abnormal vaginal bleeding, an untreated or uncontrolled pelvic infection (vaginal, cervical uterine, or bladder), a history of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).

    Do not consume alcohol while taking I-Pill®, as it may cause excessive drowsiness, calmness, minor side effects.

    Do not take I-Pill® if you are under 16 years of age.

    I-Pill® is not a method of long-term contraception.

    I-Pill® doesn't protect you and your partner from sexually transmitted diseases (HIV and the others).
