    Description

    Azee® DT manufacturer is Cipla.

    Azee® DT active ingredient Azithromycin. Azithromycin is a broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic (azalide group) with bacteriostatic activity against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

    Indications:

    - acute otitis media caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis or Streptococcus pneumoniae;

    - sinusitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis or Streptococcus pneumoniae.

    - acute bronchitis caused by Chlamydia pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae or Streptococcus pneumoniae.

    - community-acquired pneumonia due to Chlamydophila pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae or Streptococcus pneumoniae in patients appropriate for oral therapy.

    - uncomplicated skin and soft tissues infections (e.g. furunculosis, pyoderma and impetigo due to Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus agalactiae);

    - uncomplicated genital infections (in adolescents and older children) (e.g., urethritis and cervicitis due to Chlamydia trachomatis).

    Azee® DT is used as an alternative to first-line therapy of pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, in individuals who cannot use first-line therapy.

    Azee® DT is not effective against viral infections (e.g. common cold, flu) and yeast infections.

    MOA (mechanism of action):

    Azithromycin has bacteriostatic, antimicrobial effect. It inhibits the biosynthesis of RNA-dependent proteins, required by bacteria for the growth and replication. Therefore, Azithromycin stops the spread of infection and remaining bacteria eventually die.

    Dosage

    Disperse Azee® DT tablet in a teaspoon (5 ml) of boiled and cooled water before administration.

    Children 6 months and above.

    For acute otitis media:

    One-day treatment course: 30 mg/kg single dose.

    Three-day treatment course: 10 mg/kg once a day.

    Five-day treatment course: on the first day 10 mg/kg single dose; during 2-5 days 5 mg/kg per day.

    For acute bacterial sinusitis:

    Three-day treatment course: 10 mg/kg once a day.

    Five-day treatment course: on the first day 10 mg/kg single dose; during 2-5 days 5 mg/kg per day.

    For community-acquired pneumonia/acute bronchitis:

    Three-day treatment course: 10 mg/kg once a day.

    Five-day treatment course: on the first day 10 mg/kg single dose; during 2-5 days 5 mg/kg per day.

    For uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections:

    Three-day treatment course: 10 mg/kg once a day.

    Five-day treatment course: on the first day 10 mg/kg single dose; during 2-5 days 5 mg/kg per day.

    Children between 1 year – 2 years.

    For pharyngitis/tonsillitis:

    Three-day treatment course: 10 or 20 mg/kg with maximal dose 500 mg per day.

    Children 2 years and older.

    For pharyngitis/tonsillitis:

    Three-day treatment course: 10 or 20 mg/kg with maximal dose 500 mg per day.

    Five-day treatment course: 12 mg/kg once per day.

    Adolescents and older children weighing over 45 kg.

    For uncomplicated genital infections:

    One-day treatment course: 1000 mg single dose.

    Missing a dose

    If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Azee® DT to compensate the missed dose.

    Overdose

    If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, stop taking the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.

    Storage

    Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.

    Contraindications

    Do not take Azee® DT if you are allergic to Azithromycin, Erythromycin or any macrolide or ketolide antibiotic.

    Do not take Azee® DT if you are allergic to any other ingredients comprised in Azee® DT.

    Do not take Azee® DT if you have a history of severe allergic reactions associated with using antibiotics.

    Do not take Azee® DT if you have severe liver or kidney problems.

    Do not take Azee® DT if you have severe heart problems or problems with your heartbeat (QT syndrome).

    Do not take Azee® DT if your blood levels of potassium or magnesium are too low.

    Do not take Azee® DT if you develop signs of another infection.

    Do not take Azee® DT if you are taking any ergot derivatives such as Ergotamine (to treat migraine).

    Do not take Azee® DT if you have a certain type of muscle weakness called Myasthenia Gravis.

    Do not take Azee® DT if you have nervous (neurological) or mental (psychiatric) problems.

    Consult your doctor before taking Azee® DT if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
